The money cluster — answered with a date
An established seller's money typically frees within about 2 business days of the buyer's payment. A new seller is on a different schedule: eBay holds the funds until it is sure the buyer received the item. Which branch you land in decides whether you wait days or a month — and the branch is mostly chosen by what you sell first and how you ship it.
Tell it about the first thing you plan to sell. It answers with the three numbers that decide your first month: what you keep, what fits under your new-account limits, and the date your money lands. Nothing you type leaves your browser.
Short version, if you are skimming: tracked + delivered → about 2 days after delivery. Untracked → up to 21 days. Over $1,000 or high-scrutiny → up to about 30 days. Then add 1–3 business days for the payout to clear into your bank.

Why the hold exists
From eBay's side, a brand-new account with a sold item and no history is indistinguishable from a scam account — until the parcel arrives. So the published rule for new and infrequent sellers is simple: transaction holds stay on until delivery is confirmed. Tracking is the confirmation. That is why the same $40 sale can pay out in under a week or sit for three: the difference is not the money, it is the proof.
| Your sale | eBay's published rule | Money available |
|---|---|---|
| Tracked, delivered, ordinary item | Released once delivery is confirmed | About 2 days after delivery |
| Untracked (no delivery confirmation) | New-seller hold runs its course — up to 21 days in limited circumstances | Up to 21 days after the sale (terms allow up to 30 calendar days from the order date) |
| Over $1,000, or a high-scrutiny category, or an unusual pattern | Hold while eBay makes sure the buyer has no issue | Up to about 30 days |
| Once you are established | Standard availability | Typically within 2 business days of payment |

The First 30 Days Kit turns one decode into the whole month: the day-by-day calendar (limits, holds, when cash actually arrives), the First-10 listing worksheets, the hold-avoidance checklist, the limit-raise playbook for days 30/60/90, and the fee-proof pricing sheet for the common categories.

Because for a new seller, payment is not the finish line — delivery is. If you shipped with tracking, the hold normally lifts about 2 days after the tracking shows delivered. If you have not shipped yet, or shipped untracked, the clock is the longer one. The page Why is eBay holding my money? walks the branches.
Partly: eBay lets on-hold funds cover shipping labels bought on eBay and money sent back to the buyer for that same order. You cannot withdraw them to your bank until they are released.
What matters is tracked delivery confirmation, not whose label it is. An eBay label uploads tracking automatically, which removes the one step new sellers forget. Your own tracked label works the same once the number is on the order.
No. Holds are a new-and-infrequent-seller stage. As you build a record of tracked, on-time, problem-free sales, eBay moves you toward standard availability — typically within 2 business days of payment. The fastest way out is a boring first month: cheap, ordinary, tracked, shipped fast.
